University Degrees


College of Scouting

(“Leader Specific” Training  Classes Do NOT count toward your class sessions)

  • Associate Degree - awarded to all non-degreed students upon completion of less than six (6)U.O.S. class sessions of training (while as a student or an instructor).

  • Bachelor Degree - awarded upon completion of six (6) U.O.S. class sessions of training not spanning more than 2 consecutive years (while as a student or an instructor).

  • Master’s Degree - awarded upon completion of six (6) U.O.S. class sessions of training after obtaining a Bachelor Degree, not spanning more than 2 consecutive years (12 classes; while as a student or an instructor).

  • Certificate of Post-Graduate Studies - awarded to holders of Bachelor or Masters Degrees, who are not going for their Doctoral Degree, but who complete at least six (6) additional U.O.S. class sessions of training (18 classes; while as a student or instructor).  This certificate may be earned as often as the participant desires.

  • Doctoral Degree - awarded upon completion of twelve (12) U.O.S. class sessions after obtaining a Master’s Degree (either as a student or instructor) for a total of 24 class sessions.  Other requirements  include completion of courses DS501, DS502, and DS503 (if offered), completion of Doctoral Thesis as prescribed in the above courses, and attending at least six (6) class sessions (while a student or instructor) during the year of awarding the Doctoral Degree.


Additional Degrees Available

  • Post-Doctoral Degree - awarded to holders of a Doctoral Degree and at least six (6) additional U.O.S. class sessions of training (while as a student or instructor). This certificate may be earned as often as the participant desires. 

  • Fellow of Scouting Degree - awarded to holders of Doctoral Degrees from either AWAC U.O.S. or other University/College of Scouting or Commissioner of Science. Other requirements include:

    1. Implementation of Doctoral thesis.
    2. Submitting a complete description of the implementation along with supporting documents (emphasis on how the BSA program has been improved).
    3. Completing an additional twelve (12) class sessions of study (after awarding of Doctoral Degree at AWAC U.O.S. while as a student or instructor, including at least six (6) class sessions during the year of awarding the Fellow of Scouting Degree while as a student or instructor).

  • Post Fellow Degree - awarded to holders of the Fellow of Scouting Degree who have completed at least six (6) additional U.O.S. class sessions of training (while as a student or instructor). This certificate may be earned as often as the participant desires.
